What is a domain, and how much does it cost in Egypt?
A domain is the address a customer types into their browser to reach your site (like dekwin.co). Its price varies by extension (.com, .net, .com.eg) and by the registrar you buy it from, and it renews annually like any registered address.
What a domain actually is
Every device on the internet has a numeric address (an IP address) that's hard to remember or type. A domain is the human-readable stand-in for that numeric address — instead of typing a string of numbers, you type a recognizable name like dekwin.co. When someone types that name into a browser, a system called DNS translates it to the correct numeric address and takes them to the company's site.
Types of extensions, and the difference between them
The extension is the part after the dot in a domain name. .com is the most globally recognized and works for any business, especially if you're targeting customers outside Egypt too. .com.eg signals your business is specifically Egyptian, which can build more trust with local customers looking for a domestic company. Other extensions (like .net or .store) exist for different uses, but .com and .com.eg are the most common choices for a company website in Egypt.
Why the price varies
A domain's price isn't a fixed figure — it varies by the extension itself, by the registrar you buy it from, and sometimes there's a first-year discount that increases at renewal. That makes it hard to give one accurate number here that stays correct for long — the best way to know the current price is to check directly with the registrar you're planning to register through.
What matters more than the exact figure is knowing this cost is real and recurs annually, and that it should be a clear, visible line in any quote you receive for your website, not a hidden item.
The domain within Dekwin's package
The domain's cost is included in the published price of the Business Website Package (from 14,900 EGP in the first year, and within the annual renewal amount after that), registered directly in the client's name from day one — not Dekwin's — and transferable to anyone else at any time.
The warning sign in "free first year" offers
Some offers advertise a "free domain in the first year" to attract customers, a common marketing tactic used by domain registrars themselves, not just design agencies. What matters is asking explicitly what the renewal price will be from the second year onward, because that renewal price is sometimes much higher than the "free" or discounted first-year price — leaving you surprised by a bigger bill than expected when renewal time comes.
The simple question that protects you: "will this price stay the same at renewal, or will it change?" If the answer isn't clear, ask for it in writing before agreeing.
Is it worth registering more than one extension for the same name
Some companies register the same name under more than one extension (like .com and .com.eg together) as a protective measure, to stop someone else registering the same name under a different extension and using it in a way that could confuse their customers. That's an optional decision that comes down to your budget and how important your brand name is, not a required step for every site — but it's worth considering if your company name is distinctive and easy for someone else to imitate or cause confusion with.
